ENRIQUE FALLA TO RETIRE FROM KMART BOARD

TROY, Mich., April 9, 1998 -- Kmart Corporation today announced that Enrique C. Falla, former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, The Dow Chemical Company, will retire from Kmart’s Board of Directors effective May 19, 1998, the date of the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting.

"We are grateful for the distinguished service and innumerable contributions of Enrique to Kmart over the years," said Floyd Hall, Kmart Chairman, President and CEO. "His business and financial expertise have been valuable to the company and will have enduring benefits for Kmart and its shareholders. We will miss his fellowship and wish him well."

Falla joined Kmart’s Board in 1992 and served on the Audit Committee during his tenure.
