Sears Kicks Off Its 'Patriot Season' With Spring Heroes at Home Rebuilds
Partnering with Rebuilding Together and Valued Customers, Leading
Retailer Encourages Donations for Veteran's Housing Assistance
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- This spring, Sears'
Heroes at Home program and Rebuilding Together, the nation's leading
volunteer home-rehabilitation organization, seek to improve the lives of
American military families in need by making necessary repairs,
improvements or modifications to their homes. To kick off its continuation
of more than 300 Heroes at Home rebuilding projects, Sears and Rebuilding
Together will renovate the Eddie Beard Veterans Home in Chicago on
Saturday, May 16.
Sears is encouraging Americans to join the effort of helping deserving
military families. Between Friday, May 15 and Monday, July 6, donations can
be made in Sears' stores or online at Sears.com/heroesathome. The donations
will support the rehabilitation of homes for veterans and military families
across the country.
"This weekend we're launching Sears' 'Patriot Season' in which our
staff, associates and our customers demonstrate their commitment to the
military through the ongoing Heroes at Home builds and donations," said Don
Hamblen, Sears' chief marketing officer. "The need for America's heroes has
never been greater and our customers want to show their appreciation to
those who serve. By offering the option of giving both online and in-store,
Sears hopes to inspire our customers to partner with us and help these
deserving military families."
Sears customers will be able to show their gratitude in a number of
ways, including:
>
-- In-store: Customers can make donations of $1, $5 or $10 at check out.
-- Online: Members of the Sears online community can donate, nominate
participants, including self-nomination and track the progress of the
various builds.
On Saturday, May 16, Sears and Rebuilding Together will kick off its
'Patriot Season' and help to renovate the Eddie Beard Veterans Home in
Chicago from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT. Volunteers from Sears and Rebuilding
Together will conduct a variety of modifications, from the installation of
a ramp and chair lift for handicapped veterans to replacing the carpet and
windows. The shelter provides interim housing for honorably-discharged
veterans, as well as offers counseling, education and job placement
services to help homeless veterans become self-sufficient and lead
productive lives.
Sears' Heroes at Home program provides support to service members,
veterans and their families through joint efforts with various nonprofit
organizations, including Rebuilding Together. Sears Holdings has
spearheaded nationwide fundraising efforts over the past several years,
raising more than $12 million through Heroes at Home. Heroes at Home and
Rebuilding Together have helped hundreds of military families across
America and the commitment continues as Sears Holdings supports the men and
women who serve our country.
