Conflict Minerals Policy

Sears Holdings supports the sourcing of minerals responsibly. We support ending the violence and human rights violations in the mining of certain minerals from a location described as the “Conflict Region”, which is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (“DRC”) and neighboring countries. Accordingly, Sears Holdings is committed to ensuring that all tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold contained in our private label and exclusive products are obtained in a socially responsible manner.

Although Sears Holdings does not directly source minerals from mines, smelters or refiners, and is in most cases several levels removed from these market participants, it expects its suppliers to seek minerals from sources that do not directly or indirectly contribute to the ongoing violations in the Conflict Region. To aid in such compliance, Sears Holdings has included its conflict minerals policy in its Vendor Information Guide which requires that private label suppliers comply with the following duties:

  • Work with suppliers within their own supply chain to determine the source or country of origin of the specified minerals;
  • Provide Sears Holdings the necessary declarations and information needed to demonstrate their own due diligence; and
  • Commit to identifying, reducing and ultimately eliminating the use of Conflict Minerals in products supplied to Sears Holdings.
